2017 ELECTIONS DATE ANNOUNCED
The Head of State, His Majesty King Letsie III has declared
June 03, 2017 as date for the holding of the snap elections.
This is according to statement from the Office of the Prime Minister.
The statement says the office informs the nation that His Majesty has
declared June 03, 2017 as date to hold snap elections.
It says the declaration follows the legal notice No. 25 of 2017, clause
37 (I) of the National Assembly Electoral Act 2011, through the advice
of the Council of State.
“Through this notice, His Majesty has instructed the Director of
Elections to begin the necessary preparations that will lead to the
successful holding of the snap general elections, which will be held
based on the National Act 2011 guidelines,” it concluded.
The statement also says the public will be kept updated of the National
Assembly Timetable once it is readily available.
It states that His Majesty and the Council of State met on Friday to
decide of the date of the snap general elections three days after the
dissolution of the ninth parliament.
The dissolution of the ninth parliament came as result of the advice by
the Prime Minister Dr Pakalitha Mosisili following the passing of motion
of no-confidence against him by the opposition members in the National
Assembly early this month.
This snap elections follow the February 2015 also snap elections that
resulted to the formation of the seven political parties coalition
government led by Prime Minister, Dr Mosisili.
