GOVERNMENT COMMITS TO DECLARE ASSETS

The Prime Minister, Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane has announced commitment of the  government of Lesotho to the declaration of assets as it will help them fight corruption  and thus ensuring peaceful and prosperous Lesotho.

Dr Thabane said this when officially closing of the three-day High Level Induction Retreat held at ha-Mohale in the Maseru district on Thursday.

He said it is time for government to put words in actions, saying they need to show commitment to change business as usual attitude.

The Prime Minister noted that the strategic approach towards reaching a common understanding on how to handle security matters demonstrate their decision to uphold the rule of law.

He added that this government has been elected to be of service to the electorate as taxpayers and shareholders of the government, not vice-versa.

He said service delivery should be the anchor of the government machinery hence their mandate, saying they need to improve their performance management measures in order to identify strengths and weaknesses in the system.

Dr Thabane urged ministers to guard against the erosion of the public funds and diversion of public resources from their intended purposes.

He therefore called on to all ministers to roll-up sleeves and join in the utmost strength to meet the set deadline of November 07, 2017 which he said is set for Lesotho to have drawn a roadmap of full implementation of SADC decisions.

The theme for the induction retreat was 'Strategic Leadership: Towards Reformed Governance System'.
