The Minister of Development Planning says the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) will launch loan bursary sponsorship for the academic year commencing in January 2018.

Mr. Tlohelang Aumane said such sponsorship is for 800 applicants wishing to pursue their studies at the South African higher learning institutions, another 800 for Lesotho College of Education (LCE), 177 for Centre for Accounting Studies (CAS), and 88 for National University of Lesotho (NUL) applicants to pursue postgraduate studies.

He mentioned that the programme lists together with conditions and admission requirements can be accessed at the NMDS offices, District Administrators’ (DA) offices countrywide as well as the mentioned local higher learning institutions starting on Monday.

He added that published categories would include recommended candidates who have met the NMDS loan bursary sponsorship requirements on a point system, while other categories will comprise the wait-listed candidates who despite having met the requirements but fall at the lower ranking according to their scores hence awaiting a chance should there be unfilled gaps on the recommended candidates’ lists.

He said the other category is for the candidates who have failed to meet the requirements especially payment of outstanding debts of the previous loan bursary from NMDS.

Minister Aumane therefore noted that priority will be afforded to the first group on conditions that they submit admission letters, then the second group also on the same condition and thirdly will be candidates who will only be sponsored when gaps are available even after serving the two top categories and that they should have settled their previous debts with NMDS.

He therefore stressed that all candidates should meet the requirements, which include producing study leave or resignation letter in cases where they are serving public officers.

Meanwhile, candidate for the mentioned institution are expected to sign contracts at NMDS on designated dates, thus; CAS is expected on December 7 and 8, NUL Postgraduate programme on December 11 and 12 and the LCE from December 12 to 15. The recommended South African candidates are on the other hand expected from December 18 to 20.

Dates to fill gaps for wait-listed candidates wishing to study in South African institutions will be announced in due course.
