Guided by the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly the respect and promotion of international peace and security, Lesotho has established diplomatic relations with the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two countries have a desire to promote mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship and cooperation between them and to promote equality among states, due respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, independence and international treaties, and non-interference in the internal affairs of the states.

The agreement which was signed in New York by Lesotho Ambassador to the United States (US), Mr. Kelebone Maope and Mrs. Mirgul Moldoisaeva, the Kyrgyz Republic Ambassador to the US who stated that the two have decided to establish diplomatic relations at Ambassador level with effect from July 20 under the terms of the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations of April 18, 1961, the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of April 24, 1963, and based on the principles enshrined in the Charter of the US.

The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations is an international treaty that defines a framework for diplomatic relations between independent countries.

It give out privileges of a diplomatic mission that allows a diplomat to perform their duties without fear of harassment by the host country, while the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations defines a framework for consular relations between independent states and a consular normally operating out of an embassy in another country and performs two functions.

These functions include protecting in the host country the interests of their countrymen and promoting commercial and economic relations between the two states.

Kyrgyz an independent country located in Asia. It attained sovereignty as a nation-state after the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991. It has a population of approximately 5.7 million.
