DR MOSITO BACK IN PRESIDENCY

The Lesotho Government has issued a gazette appointing Dr Kananelo Everrit Mosito KC as the new President of the Court of Appeal.

The gazette Legal Notice No. 64 of 2017 dated August 01, 2017 states that acting pursuant to Section 124 (1) of the Constitution of Lesotho and acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister, His Majesty King Letsie III has appointed Dr Kananelo Mosito as the President of the Court of Appeal with effect from August 01, 2017.

This is the second time Dr Mosito is appointed President of the country’s apex court after his first appointment in same office in 2015.

However, his first appointment was terminated by the former Coalition Government through a Legal Notice No. 156 of 2016 on December 23, 2016.

Meanwhile, in April 2017, the same government appointed a retired South African Judge Robert Nugent as the President of the Appeal Court, stating that he would resume his duties on May 22, 2017 but he has never presided in any court sitting as the court only has its sessions in April and October of every year.
