HIS MAJESTY ACCEPTS LETTERS OF CREDENCE
FROM NEW ZEALAND
His Majesty King Letsie III has strongly expressed gratitude to the
government of New Zealand for its contribution towards Lesotho's
His Majesty was speaking at the Royal Palace in Maseru when accepting
letters of credence from New Zealand High Commissioner to Lesotho, Mr.
Michael Gerrard Burrel on Thursday.
He said New Zealand contributed immensely towards Lesotho's adoption of
the Mixed Member Proportional Presentation electoral model, following
the 1998 political problems in Lesotho.
He said the model can help Lesotho to the desired political stability by
providing an inclusive and broad based national assembly.
He added that New Zealand hosted the Lesotho delegation in 2014 for a
visit aimed at deepening the understanding and application of the mixed
member Proportional Representation Parliamentary system.
He expressed hope that during his tenure of office as the High
Commissioner, both countries will further deepen their relations for the
mutual benefit of their people.
He also assured him of the government and Basotho's support during his
tour of duty.
Presenting his letters of credence, Mr. Burrel also expressed gratitude
to Lesotho for her support during the time of the United Nations
Security Council, saying that New Zealand continues to enjoy working
with Lesotho in the UN among others.
He said both countries rely on agriculture for economy, expressing hope
that Basotho will continue to further their studies in New Zealand,
particularly in the field of agriculture.
After presenting his letters of credence, the High Commissioner paid a
courtesy call to the Prime Minister.
