THE AUDITOR GENERAL
Office of the
Auditor General is the Supreme Audit Institution in Lesotho
and the primary responsibility for audit of the Government
of Lesotho is vested in this statutory office.
The nature of
the public financial management requires full public
accountability which is guaranteed through audit. The Office
of the Auditor General promotes public accountability to
itself first and finally to the public through Parliament.
MANDATE
Section 117 of
the Constitution of Lesotho, Audit Act of 1973 and Statutory
Bodies Act of 1973 set out the Auditor General’s mandate
requiring full audit of all accounts relating to the
consolidated fund of Lesotho, other accounts and public
stores for the purpose of providing an overall opinion on
the accounts.
