UPGRADING OF
SETSOTO STADIUM IN MAY-SPORTS MINISTER |
Around M10
million has been earmarked for the upgrading of the southern
and northern wings of Setsoto Stadium and dressing rooms as
well as media stands, which is to start in May this year.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Gender and Youth,
Sports and Recreation, Mrs. 'Mathabiso Lepono in submission
of her ministry’s 2008/2009 budget in the National Assembly
on Monday.
Mrs. Lepono said her ministry has already advertised tenders
for contractors to upgrade the stadium, adding that the work
to improve quality of lightening is currently underway.
On the other hand, the Minister pointed out that
preparations are afoot for a foreign coach to resume his
duties after approving budget from the Lesotho Football
Association (LEFA).
She pointed out that the budget has also been approved for
the senior national side to participate in the 2010 World
Cup as well as Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games, which
commence in mid year.
Mrs. Lepono said they have also budgeted for engagement of
80 sports development volunteers to be deployed in 80
constituencies who will work closely with sports organisers.
The Minister said the aim is to see Lesotho doing well in
all sporting codes by 2020. Other international competitions
which have also been budgeted for are Supreme Council for
Sports in Africa, Commonwealth Games as well as the 2008
Beijing Olympic Games.
