UPGRADING OF SETSOTO STADIUM IN MAY-SPORTS MINISTER

Around M10 million has been earmarked for the upgrading of the southern and northern wings of Setsoto Stadium and dressing rooms as well as media stands, which is to start in May this year.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation, Mrs. 'Mathabiso Lepono in submission of her ministry’s 2008/2009 budget in the National Assembly on Monday.

Mrs. Lepono said her ministry has already advertised tenders for contractors to upgrade the stadium, adding that the work to improve quality of lightening is currently underway.

On the other hand, the Minister pointed out that preparations are afoot for a foreign coach to resume his duties after approving budget from the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA).

She pointed out that the budget has also been approved for the senior national side to participate in the 2010 World Cup as well as Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games, which commence in mid year.

Mrs. Lepono said they have also budgeted for engagement of 80 sports development volunteers to be deployed in 80 constituencies who will work closely with sports organisers.

The Minister said the aim is to see Lesotho doing well in all sporting codes by 2020. Other international competitions which have also been budgeted for are Supreme Council for Sports in Africa, Commonwealth Games as well as the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
