UN RESIDENT
COORDINATOR TO LESOTHO VISITS HIS MAJESTY |
Relations
between Lesotho and the United Nations agencies were further
strengthened when the newly United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative and UN Resident
Coordinator to Lesotho Ms.Ahunna Eziakonwa-Onochie paid a
courtesy call to His Majesty King Letsie III on Thursday.
A Nigerian by birth, Ms. Eziakonwa-Onochie resumed her
duties early this month after presenting her credentials to
the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations
Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa, assuring to continue to advocate for UN
interventions to improve people’s lives in the country.
She also paid a courtesy call to the Prime Minister Mr.
Pakalitha Mosisili.
She succeeds Ms. Hodan Haji-Mohamud who left Lesotho in
September last year to UNDP head office in New York.
The UN Resident Coordinator is expected to carry out duties
of the United Nations for a period of three years in the
country.
Ms. Eziakonwa-Onochie was educated in both Nigeria and the
United States. She has extensive international experience,
with specific focus on international development and
humanitarian assistance.
During her 12 years of work at the UN Secretariat, she
served in the departments of Public Information,
Peacekeeping operations and the Office for the Coordination
of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Her last assignment was with OCHA in New York, where she
served as the Chief of the Africa Section, managing over
15-country-operations in Africa.
