Senators
resumed duty on Wednesday after two weeks of Easter recess.
In his welcome remarks, the Vice President of the Senate,
Mr. Hlomohang Morokole urged members to be committed in
their work and strive for improved service delivery for the
benefit of the nation.
He appealed to senators to be punctual so to have enough
time to participate in daily discussions, adding that they
should portray qualities of good leadership in their
respective areas.
As part of the day proceedings, Members were briefed on
Civil Aviation Bill 2008, whose purpose is to consolidate
and update aviation with a view to align it with current
international aviation policies.
The bill updates and brings together in one document the
Civil Aviation Act of 1975 and Aviation Offenses Act 1975.
The major changes focus on liberalisation of civil aviation.
The significance of the bill is based on the international
and sensitivities and concerns regarding threats to aviation
safety and security.
The bill will be discussed next week whereby Mr. Ts'ele
Chakele, the Minister responsible for Civil Aviation will be
present.
