SENATORS BACK AT WORK

Senators resumed duty on Wednesday after two weeks of Easter recess.

In his welcome remarks, the Vice President of the Senate, Mr. Hlomohang Morokole urged members to be committed in their work and strive for improved service delivery for the benefit of the nation.

He appealed to senators to be punctual so to have enough time to participate in daily discussions, adding that they should portray qualities of good leadership in their respective areas.

As part of the day proceedings, Members were briefed on Civil Aviation Bill 2008, whose purpose is to consolidate and update aviation with a view to align it with current international aviation policies.

The bill updates and brings together in one document the Civil Aviation Act of 1975 and Aviation Offenses Act 1975. The major changes focus on liberalisation of civil aviation.

The significance of the bill is based on the international and sensitivities and concerns regarding threats to aviation safety and security.

The bill will be discussed next week whereby Mr. Ts'ele Chakele, the Minister responsible for Civil Aviation will be present.
