ROAD FUND ALLOCATES M14 MILLION FOR MAQALIKA ROAD

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport will use M14 million from Road Fund for rehabilitation of Maqalika road.

The Principal Secretary (PS) for the Ministry, Mr. Lebohang Phooko said this at a press conference in Maseru on Tuesday.

He said, the rehabilitation of a 2.8 kilometres road from Maqalika Dam junction to Lesotho Agricultural College (LAC) will start on Monday next week and it will take four months.

Mr. Phooko added that the rehabilitation follows an observation that the road's sub-structure is falling as a result of excessive water and increasing flow of traffic on the Maqalika road.

He said the ministry has engaged a joint venture of Mafube Consultants and Matekane Transport in the rehabilitation process, adding that while under construction, the road will be temporarily closed and transport operators will use the Main North One road.

Maqalika Dam road was constructed in 1993 by the Road Improvement Unit (RIU) within the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, to relieve traffic on the Main North One road.
