PM LEADS LESOTHO DELEGATION TO QATAR

PRESS RELEASE 26 NOVEMBER 2008

The Right Honourable the Prime Minister Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili will lead the Lesotho Delegation to the Follow-Up International Conference on Financing for Development to Review the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus. The Conference will be held in Doha, Qatar and will run from November 29 through December 2, 2008.

The Conference will among other things, assess progress made since 2002 when Heads of State and Government adopted the Monterrey Consensus in Mexico during the first International Conference on Financing for Development, including identifying new challenges facing developing countries and suggesting actions and initiatives to combat them.

Deliberations through Plenary Meetings and Interactive Multi-Stakeholder Round Tables will focus on the following themes of the Monterrey Consensus:

  • Mobilizing domestic financial resources for development:
  • Mobilizing international resources for development: Foreign Direct Investment and other private flows;
  • International Trade as an engine for Development;
  • Increasing international financial and technical cooperation for development;
  • External debt; and
  • Enhancing the monetary, finance and trading system in support of development.

The other members of the delegation are:

  1. Minister or Foreign Affairs Hon. M. Tsekoa;
  2. Minister of Finance Dr T. Thahane;
  3. Minister of Trade Hon. P. Lebesa;
  4. SPS PM’s Office Mrs M. Seitlheko;
  5. PS Foreign Mr T. Metsing;
  6. Lesotho Ambassador to Egypt H.E. Mr T. Khasipe;
  7. Acting PS Trade Ms M. Qoane;
    and some relevant senior government officials.
