MULTITUDES
WISH HIS MAJESTY HAPPY BIRTHDAY |
A sea of black
and yellow, dominant colours of Mafeteng – defined the
landscape of the town as many people who attended the 45th
King’s birthday on Thursday.
More than 40,000 people from all walks of life parked the
town's Pitso ground to enjoy an array of different
entertainment repertoire offered while His Majesty the King
sat close to his guest of honour Prince Harry to take it all
in.
Prince Harry, Britain’s third in line to the throne took
time off from his construction project of a school for the
disabled in Botha-Bothe to attend the ceremony.
Several dignitaries of traditional, government, church and
other formations of society stood in a big ring measuring
the size of two soccer pitches to see various dances, choral
and music entertainments as they took the centre stage to
entertain the country’s head of state and symbol of Basotho
unity, His Majesty King Letsie III.
People in the Mafeteng district only, had divided themselves
into four celebration clubs namely, Makaota glad in black
and yellow colours, Lits’ukulu in green and blue colours,
Lilala and Mabeoana in blue and black.
Colours which are national known to represent Makaota date
back to the days when settlements formed in districts
adopted a distinct persona named after its warriors such as
Mohale’s Hoek (majantja) Leribe (linare) Botha-Bothe (likila)
Quthing (liphakoe) Maseru (matlama), Teyateyaneng (lioli)
Qachas Nek (melele ) Mokhotlong (liphamola).
Mafeteng is 80 kilometers south of the capital, Maseru and
it has a population of approximately 36000.
