For the First
time after 15 years, Lesotho will take pride as Dr Moeketsi
Majoro, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance
and Development Planning serve as the Executive Director for
International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Dr Majoro will resume his duties in November in the United
States of America (USA) following exclusive interviews by
various Finance Ministers in different countries namely
South Africa, Namibia and Liberia.
He will serve four years in America, the first two years as
the Executive Director IMF and the remaining two years as
the Executive Director World Bank.
In an interview, Finance and Development Planning Minister,
Dr Timothy Thahane who also represented Lesotho in both
categories in the 1970's expressed gratitude saying Dr
Majoro's appointment is a clear indication that Basotho have
potential in issues of development.
He urged the Principal Secretary to use his skills
effectively for his development and the country especially
the economy of Lesotho.
Born at Tsikoane in Leribe, Dr Majoro joined the Ministry of
Finance in July 2000, after resigning as a lecturer in
Economics in the Department of Economics at the National
University of Lesotho (NUL).
IMF is an international financial institute based in America
to oversee global financial system by following the
macroeconomics policies of its member countries. It was
established in 1944 and has over 184 members.
