LIMKOKWING
STUDENTS URGED TO BE FOCUSED |
Students of
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology have been urged
to focus and concentrate in their studies so that they would
bring change in the development of the country.
This plea was made by the Minister of Education and
Training, Dr 'Mamphono Khaketla during her official visit at
the University Campus in Maseru on Monday.
She encouraged the students to maintain discipline since it
leads to success, adding that they should not resort to
violence when they have grievances.
Dr Khaketla further urged the students to put more effort on
their studies so to ensure that they will become job
creators and not seekers after completing their studies.
She encouraged the students to use the opportunity they have
as the first batch of students of the university, saying
they are lucky to have been admitted in the new university
established towards promotion of creativity and innovation
in the country.
The Minister condemned the recent attacks to some of the
Limkokwing University students last week saying that the
government and parents will ensure that the lives of
students are protected from any harm.
The minister and her delegation from the ministry also had
the opportunity to tour the university's lecture rooms which
are temporarily based near Lerotholi Polytechnic.
Dr Khaketla said preparations are underway to secure a place
out of Maseru city where the university will be constructed.
Reading the message from the founder of Limkokwing
University at the same occasion, the Senior Vice President
for Quality Assurance Mr. Dato Wardi said he is humbled by
the tremendous support and trust accorded by the government
through the Ministry of Education and Training on the
opening of the university in Lesotho.
'The opening of the campus in Lesotho with a group of over
1000 students is testimony and challenge for young citizens
to build new careers through acquisition of skills needed
for the country to move its economy up through new value
chains,'.
Mr. Wardi further said the University has a shared vision to
build awareness amongst Basotho and also to prepare them for
a new world with the skills to make Lesotho competitive and
strong to face numerous challenges around the globe.
The student's representative Ms. Lineo Segoete expressed
gratitude to the government and ministry of education for
making the establishment of Limkokwing University a reality
in the country.
She pledged that they will excel beyond expectations in
their studies and make Lesotho known to the world with arts,
culture and passion for creativity and technology.
The University offers associate and degree programmes that
include associate degree in Public Relations, Tourism,
Graphic Design, Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering
and International Technology among others.
Limkokwing University has a collegial network of over 170
universities in 130 countries including Lesotho and Botswana
in Southern Africa.
The establishment of the university in the country follows
talks between the Prime Minister Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili and
its founder Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato of Malaysia
during last year's Smart Partnership Dialogue in Malaysia.
