LESOTHO, SOUTH
AFRICA STRENGTHEN TIES |
Relations
between Lesotho and South Africa were further strengthened
during official visit of King Leruo Tshekedi Molotlegi of
Bafokeng at the Royal Palace on Tuesday.
King Molotlegi is the 15th direct descendant of the Royal
Bafokeng nation in Rustenburg, South Africa since 2000.
When welcoming King Molotlegi during a dinner function at
the Royal Palace, His Majesty King Letsie III said the visit
of King Molotlegi underscores warm relations that have
always existed between Lesotho and Bafokeng.
His Majesty said the relations between Lesotho and Bafokeng
in South Africa have existed for many years through the
efforts of Moshoeshoe I.
“We therefore owe it to him to ensure everlasting peace for
the benefits of our young generations, more importantly
because my people work in South African mines in order to
improve their livelihoods,” he said.
Sharing the same sentiments, King Molotlegi, said he was
committed towards attaining friendship between his nation
and Basotho.
“I am also ready to assist Basotho, especially in the areas
of education for the development of education sector and the
country, and in my area (Phokeng) I have brought Basotho and
Bafokeng together.”
He expressed need for his office and that of His Majesty
King Letsie III to work towards sustaining developments,
noting that his visit is aimed at acquiring knowledge and
sharing experiences with Basotho for the improvement of his
nation.
During his visit, King Molotlegi will visit the Royal
village at Matsieng and he is expected to leave the country
for Rustenburg on Friday.
