LESOTHO
PARTICIPATES IN UNCAC CONFERENCE |
Lesotho will
take part at a five day conference of the state parties to
the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) to
be held in Indonesia, Jakarta starting Monday.
At this conference, Lesotho will be represented by the
Director General for the Directorate on Corruption and
Economic Offences (DCEO) Mr. Borotho Matsoso, and Director
of Public Education of DCEO, Mr. Litelu Ramokhoro.
Mr. Matsoso said the conference will bring together African
Countries such as Lesotho, South Africa, Tanzania, Malawi,
Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia to discuss best practices which
will be put in place in order to prevent corruption.
He added that during the conference, participants will also
review technical needs for different countries so that those
who need assistance can be capacitated.
Mr. Matsoso outlined that 'corruption is an act of evil',
adding that it needs team work to be uprooted.
At the end of the conference, participants will have
developed clear policies with regard to corruption for
implementation purposes in different countries.
The UNCAC aims to promote and strengthen measures to prevent
and combat corruption more efficiently and effectively while
the DCEO was established under the Prevention of Corruption
and Economic Offences Act No.5 of 1999 so as to address
issues of corruption in Lesotho.
