FBI PRESENTS
CRIME SCENE KITS TO LMPS |
The Federal
Bureau of Investigations (FBI) of the United States Embassy
has donated crime scene kits worth M102 000 to the Lesotho
Mounted Police Service (LMPS).
The equipment comprised of 11 cameras, examination gloves,
evidence bags, measuring tapes and torches.
Handing over the equipment, the Assistant Legal Attaché of
FBI Ms. Marilyn William said the equipment is meant to
assist members of LMPS to properly manage crime scenes and
to give detailed evidence.
She said the gifts also symbolise FBI commitment to support
and enhance the investigation sector in developing countries
that include Lesotho.
Accepting the offer, the Commissioner of Police, Mrs. 'Malejaka
Letooane said the equipment shows cooperation between the
two countries.
She said it (equipment) will assist LMPS staff to improve
investigations as their work needs equipment such as these,
as a way to add value to information they gather at the
scene of crime.
As part of FBI assistance in Lesotho, about 30 LMPS
Investigative Officers were trained in July 2007, and they
were also given crime scene kits.
The police have also given assurance that the equipment will
be used to the optimum to enhance professionalism in
handling issues on crime.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is the primary
investigative arm of the United States Department of Justice
serving as both a Federal Criminal Investigative body and a
Domestic Violence Intelligence Agency.
