BOS GEARS UP
FOR LABOUR FORCE SURVEY |
The Bureau of
Statistics (BOS) will conduct the 2008 Lesotho Labour Force
Survey that is expected to take a month, starting from May.
According to information from the Bureau, the type of survey
is conducted regularly after the population census with the
aim of cross-checking the census results.
The BOS says the objective of the survey is to collect
information on important aspects of the labour force in the
country.
The information will help the government to assess the
current economic activities, poverty levels, employment and
gender as well as economically active population engaged in
the informal sector.
It is expected to pave way for government to make informed
decisions in the area of employment creation and poverty
reduction.
The exercise involves interviews in households that will
have been sampled and randomly selected.
The Bureau of Statistics says it is listing households in
the selected areas in all the districts, an exercise that
started on March 28 and expected to end on April 13.
In addition, it is winding up a pilot survey aimed at
testing the survey instrument, which is a questionnaire, it
started on March 28 and ends on Friday in preparation for
the main survey.
The activity was carried out in Quthing, Qacha's Nek, Thaba
Tseka and Mohale's Hoek.
The last Labour Force Survey was conducted in 1997, after
the 1996 population census.
