BASOTHO SHOULD
TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR OWN DESTINY-SIR KETUMILE MASIRE |
Former Botswana
president, Sir Ketumile Masire says the turmoil in Lesotho
requires that all Basotho apply themselves to addressing it
and this includes both government and the opposition
parties.
Mr. Masire said this last Friday at the end of his three-day
visit to Lesotho, which was part of the post-electoral
political dialogue in the country.
Regarding the progress or lack of it in resolving the
electoral disputes, Mr. Masire said it is a disappointment
to everyone that the post-election conflicts have to date
not been resolved.
He said the implication of this is that both democracy and
justice are delayed and denied, something that does not
augur well for the advancement of the country.
Sir Ketumile Masire who was leading the Southern African
Development Community Eminent Persons Mission, insisted that
SADC is just as disappointment as Basotho in this matter.
Commenting on measures that need to be taken to ensure
timely dispensation of justice, he indicated that Lesotho
has two sets of problems, namely the electoral problem
currently before the courts of law, and the relationship
between political parties and individuals.
During his stay in Lesotho, Mr. Masire held talks with the
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the opposition
parties contesting the outcome of the February 17, 2007
polls and government.
He also paid courtesy calls on His Majesty King Letsie III
and the Prime Minister, Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili.
