BASOTHO SHOULD BE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS - DPM

The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Lesao Lehohla says Lesotho is ruled by law hence people should be law-abiding citizens.

In an interview on Thursday regarding purported stay-away by public transport operators on Monday next week, Mr. Lehohla said the government did not reach a consensus with public transport operators because the decision to have buses, transporting people to work around Maseru and other areas had already been made by cabinet.

He said the delay to give feedback following his meeting with their representatives was caused by the fact that he had to consult with cabinet.

Mr. Lehohla further added that people do not deserve to be punished or neglected as operators intend not to take them to their various work stations.

He however said, 'The government sympatises with the public whenever crises arise, and that government buses will be available to transport them to work.'

The Deputy Prime Minister warned that every individual knows his or her employment conditions, advising that they all have to abide by the rules governing them at work.

Meanwhile, public transport representative committee held a meeting, which was closed with the Minister of Public works and Transport, Mr Ts'ele Chakela on Thursday to discuss a way forward following their announcement to go on a four day stay-away starting on Monday next week.

Earlier this week, transport operators held a press conference where they announced their intention to embark on a four day strike.
