At least 243
people received medals and awards at the Royal Palace in
Maseru on Tuesday as part of the celebration to commemorate
45th King’s Birthday.
The awards were given in five categories namely civilian,
legal, army, police and prisons. Three lawyers received
scrolls appointing them as Kings Counsels. They are
advocates Karabo Mohau, Salemane Phafane and Motiea Teele.
In the civilian category a well known Mosotho medical
professional, Dr. 'Musi Mokete was awarded a medal for his
outstanding dedication and contribution in the medical
field. Joining him were Mr. Ts'eliso Makhakhe (teaching),
Mr. 'Molotsi Kolisang (legal and politics).
Prominent photographer Mr. Dirk Schwager who has taken
hundreds of pictures on Lesotho received a medal for
promoting tourism in Lesotho while Mr. Phatela Thamae's
award is in recognition of his farming in general. Lt. Thuso
Motanyane received a medal of Knight Commander of the most
gallant order of Makoanyane.
From the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), two senior officers
namely Major General Samuel Makoro Makoro and Major Mofika
Francis Lekola were awarded Military Service Medal for 30
years of service in the military.
Captain Gerard Nkhets'e, Lieutenant Mahlakajoe Justice
Lehana and Lieutenant Ramahlehle Moletsane received Military
Service Medal for the same period of service.
Meanwhile, nine other ranks received Military Service Medal
for 30 years of service. The other two senior officers were
awarded LDF Military Medals for Meritorious service with
another 10 junior officers being awarded LDF medals for
meritorious service.
Forty three soldiers received medals for meritorious
service.
Thirty-seven officers of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service
were awarded medals for long and loyal service while other
77 officers were honoured with medals for outstanding
service. 19 officers were decorated with medals for
meritorious service.
From the Lesotho Correctional Services 31 officers received
medals for gallantry.
Advocate Karabo Mohau said they are humbled to receive the
awards adding that the awards will serve as a challenge
urging other recipients to further live up to the
expectation.
