WASA SIGNS
LOAN AGREEMENT WITH EIB |
Water and
Sewerage Authority (WASA) has signed a loan agreement
amounting to M138.8 million with European Investment Bank (EIB)
in Luxembourg.
WASA stated in a press release that the loan agreement is
aimed for expansion and rehabilitation of waste water and
sanitation facilities in Maseru.
The loan will cover 50 percent of the total project cost of
M277.4 million and the European Commission under the
European Union will provide M97.2 million grant while
Lesotho government will provide M41.8 million.
WASA added that the project will contribute significantly to
Lesotho's efforts to achieve the Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs) for sanitation coverage in Maseru urban and
peri-urban areas for 100 000 inhabitants.
The investment programme is adapted to the different income
levels of the beneficiaries and includes connection to
central sewer networks as well as the construction of low
cost on site sanitation facilities.
WASA delegation to Luxembourg was led by the Chief
Executive, Mrs. Refiloe Tlali, who signed on behalf of WASA.
Other delegates were Director of Engineering Mr. Lira
Mohosho, Finance Director Mrs. Nomvula Bohloa and
Environmental Manager Ms. Palesa Monongoaha Mofosi.
Lesotho's Ambassador in Belgium Mrs. 'Mamoruti Tiheli
witnessed the signing ceremony.
