PRE-ELECTION MEDIA TRAINING WORKSHOP |
Embassy
of the United States of America (US) has organised a special
two-day pre-election media training workshop starting on
Thursday, 8th February, at Maseru Golf Club.
The media training workshop according to Public Affairs
Officer Mrs. 'Mamosa Mapeshoane will be facilitated by Mr.
Terry Fitzpatrick, an American media trainer. Mr.
Fitzpartrick has previously led extensive training courses
for various media organisations in Africa.
This workshop will cover topics of interest as Lesotho
approaches national elections, including how to cover or
organise political debates, how to cover political parties
and candidates and how to be a watchdog during the elections
and vote tabulation processes.
All the media organisations in the country are invited to
attend and certificates of attendance will be awarded to
those who would have participated in the entire two-day
workshop.
Lesotho will be going for the sixth parliamentary polls on
February 17 where at least 19 political parties will be
contesting.
Meanwhile, major political parties will be holding their
biggest and last political rallies prior to the election day
in Maseru on Sunday as their last attempt to lure electorate
to vote for them.
There are over 900 000 people registered with the
Independent electoral Commission (IEC) to cast their votes
throughout the country at the 2500 polling centres.
