Congressman, Mr. Jim McDermott arrived in Lesotho on Tuesday
to officiate the 1st anniversary of Ha Nohana Clinic in
Mohale's Hoek on Wednesday.
Mr. McDermott is a Democrats member of congress who
represents the Seventh District of Washington State.
The Ha Nohana clinic is one of the many clinics, which have
been established with the help of Partners in Health with
the government, Irish, Clinton Foundation from USA in the
country. The aim is to provide access to health care
services throughout the country.
In an interview with LENA, the Minister of Health and Social
Welfare, Dr. Mphu Ramatlapeng said the government recognizes
Mr. McDermott as an important guest as he is the initiator
behind Lesotho getting the Millennium Challenge Corporation
grant of US$ 363 million from the United States government.
During his visit to Lesotho, Mr. McDermott will visit
Precious garment factory and will tour around health centres
in the rural areas.
Meanwhile, Dr Ramatlapeng said it is expected that the King
will award Mr McDermott in recognition of his efforts in
enhancing the economy of African countries, especially
Lesotho.
