MR. THABISI SWORN IN AS MP

Member of the Basotho National Party (BNP), Mr. Seabata Thabisi was sworn in as a new member of Parliament representing his party in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

Mr. Thabisi substitutes the late Mr. Phale Mokoena, who died in a car accident and was laid to rest at Sekamaneng last Saturday.

The BNP member took oath of allegiance to His Majesty King Letsie III and constitution of Lesotho before the Clerk of the National Assembly, Ms. Lebohang Ramohlanka.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Sephiri Motanyane oriented, Mr. Thabisi of what is expected from him as an honourable member of the house.

Since he was not new as an MP, after serving in the sixth parliament, Mr. Motanyane reminded, Mr. Thabisi that new MPs will be looking up to him to lead them with example.

He noted that some people begin their lives well but eventually end up tarnishing the good things they had been doing all along.

The Deputy Speaker warned MPs that the electorates expect members to serve them with distinction and not to pursue their personal aspirations.

He noted that electorates will always be watching them and would judge them accordingly during the next polls.

Meanwhile, Mr. Motanyane announced that a former Basutoland Congress Party (BCP) MP in the house in 1993, Mr. Mohaila Mohale has died.

He said his obituary will be conducted in the house on Friday.

Besides, being an MP, Mr. Mohale also served as a Cabinet Minister.
