SUDAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTS LETTERS OF CREDENCE

The Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Sudan, Mr. Kuol Alor Kuol presented letters of credence to His Majesty King Letsie III at the Royal Palace on Thursday.

Accepting the credentials, His Majesty said the occasion signifies the commitment of Sudan to maintain and further enhance the bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation, which have over the years existed between the two countries.

He said Lesotho supports and congratulates the government of Sudan for its positive role in the efforts to find a lasting solution to the crisis of instability in Sudan, saying the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU) and the government of Sudan have agreed on the formation of a joint peace-keeping operation.

He said Lesotho supports Sudan's Policy of creating conducive conditions for cooperation with various continental and international stakeholders.

“Increased understanding between Sudan, other African countries and international community will serve to give impetus to the on-going peace efforts in the Republic of Sudan,” he added

His Majesty also extended Lesotho's support to the UN/AU hybrid force, particularly as Lesotho has for some time been sending military as well as police personnel to Darfur for peace-keeping operations in the region.

Presenting his letters of credence, Mr. Kuol said in its capacity as Chairman of the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development, Sudan is playing an active role in the attainment of peace and stability in the
African continent.

He said Sudan will spare no effort in promoting values and ideals of the African Unity, adding that concerted effort is needed to foster South-South dialogue to alleviate poverty and to ensure a sustained
development for a better world.
