SENATORS TO
ATTEND GLOBAL PARLIAMENTARY MEETING |
The Chairperson
of Senate HIV/AIDS Committee, Chieftainess Nthati Bereng
will lead Senate delegation to the first global
parliamentary meeting on HIV/AIDS to be held in Manila,
Philippines from November 28 to 30.
The Senate has stated in a press release that the meeting is
designed to enlist the full force of world's legislature in
the fight against AIDS pandemic in which parliaments are
crucial stakeholders.
The overall theme of the meeting is ‘leadership’, and the
topics to be discussed will include among others, Parliament
and leadership in combating HIV/AIDS, affordability of
drugs, what can parliament do for vulnerable groups and
resource mobilisation.
The delegation will include Chieftainess 'Mantoetse Lesaoana
Peete, Clerk of the Senate Mr. Makhabane Maluke and UNDP
Parliamentary Support Specialist Mr. Dyfan Jones.
The meeting has been organised for Parliaments worldwide by
the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) in collaboration
with the Senate in Philippines.
