SAVE THE
CHILDREN REUNITES CHILDREN WITH FAMILIES |
At least 25
children have been re-united with their family members by
Save the Children Lesotho since beginning of the year.
Save the Children is a temporary place of safety for Orphans
and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) including abandoned children.
Speaking in an interview with LENA, the organisation’s
Social Worker Mr. Koenahali Masupha said the children were
reunited with their family members following thorough
investigations that were conducted in collaboration with the
Department of Social Welfare.
Mr. Masupha said they had this year enrolled 36 children
most of whom were boys, saying the fact that they managed to
reunite a total of 25 children with their families is an
indication of commitment between Save the Children and
Social Welfare department.
“We have also introduced a Reunification Programme at Save
the Children and the programme has contributed a great deal
as it provides us with necessary skills that enable us to
trace children's families,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Mr. Masupha appealed to communities to join hands
in caring and supporting the orphaned and vulnerable
children, bearing in mind the four fundamental rights of
children which are health, freedom from hunger, education
and protection.
Save the Children Lesotho was established in 1963. It aims
to ensure that children survive and thrive, and that their
families and communities have the resources and skills to
help them.
