REPRESENTATIVES ATTEND MASA MEETING |
Directors of
National Meteorological Services from Southern African
Development Community (SADC) gathered in Maseru on Wednesday
for the Meteorological Association of Southern Africa (MASA)
meeting.
MASA is a coordinating agency based in South Africa, it is
mandated to coordinate meteorological and climate change
issues in the region.
The meeting, which has been organised by Lesotho
Meteorological Services (LMS) aims to bring together
directors to share experiences and challenges with regard to
meteorological and climate change issues and how they can
overcome such challenges.
Speaking in an interview with LENA, the Director of LMS, Mr.
Ts'eliso Sekoli, said the three day meeting, which started
on Monday, is also intended to strengthen relations between
National Directors of Meteorological Services in the region.
“We can not do our work effectively as climate experts
without collaborating because we have to know climate
changes that occur in other countries to be able to predict
the whether,” he said.
Mr. Ts'eliso said, during the meeting, participants will
also finalise the MASA constitution, which was developed
during a similar meeting in Pretoria, South Africa last
year.
Attendants are Directors from Lesotho, South Africa, Malawi,
Tanzania, Zambia, Swaziland, Mozambique and Namibia
respectively.
