ROLE OF
GOVERNMENT IS TO MAINTAIN PEACE-DPM |
The role of the
government is to ensure that the constitution is protected
for maintenance of peace and stability.
Delivering the statement on the recent incidents, which
occurred in Maseru, the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Lesao
Lehohla said political party leaders are also expected to
work towards promotion of peace for public safety and
security.
He said the government is concerned about the incidents
which occurred between June 11 and July 07 this year that
include attacks at some cabinet ministers' homes, disarming
of bodyguards and kidnapping of government vehicles by
unknown men.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the Lesotho Mounted Police
Service (LMPS) and the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) are
investigating these incidences.
He urged the public to work jointly with members of the
armed forces in search of the firearms saying they
(firearms) are the government's property.
Mr. Lehohla further said through investigations some
firearms have been recovered, members and ex-members of the
LDF have been arrested in connection with the alleged
incidents noting that they will face formal charges before
the courts of law.
The Deputy Prime Minister urged all citizens to maintain
peace and stability for the country's development.
