ROLE OF GOVERNMENT IS TO MAINTAIN PEACE-DPM

The role of the government is to ensure that the constitution is protected for maintenance of peace and stability.

Delivering the statement on the recent incidents, which occurred in Maseru, the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Lesao Lehohla said political party leaders are also expected to work towards promotion of peace for public safety and security.

He said the government is concerned about the incidents which occurred between June 11 and July 07 this year that include attacks at some cabinet ministers' homes, disarming of bodyguards and kidnapping of government vehicles by unknown men.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) and the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) are investigating these incidences.

He urged the public to work jointly with members of the armed forces in search of the firearms saying they (firearms) are the government's property.

Mr. Lehohla further said through investigations some firearms have been recovered, members and ex-members of the LDF have been arrested in connection with the alleged incidents noting that they will face formal charges before the courts of law.

The Deputy Prime Minister urged all citizens to maintain peace and stability for the country's development.
