PUBLIC URGED
TO COOPERATE WITH POLICE |
The Assistant
Minister of Home Affairs and Public Safety says harmonious
relations between the police and the public is essential for
good policing.
Ms Lineo Molise made this assertion at a meeting between the
Police Complaints Authority (PCA), the heads of government
departments and the District Council in Leribe on Tuesday.
She said the PCA is specifically charged with the
responsibility of fostering healthy relations between the
police and the public while at the same time encouraging
prompt dispensation of justice.
She urged the attendees to sensitize the public on the roles
of the PCA so that they could utilize the services offered
by the Authority.
Responding to calls for the decentralization of PCA, PCA’s
Director Mrs. Thakane Chimombe said the process is in the
pipeline even though government’s immediate attention is to
empower the police with resources.
The Police Complaints Authority has been established under
the section 22 of Lesotho Mounted Police Service Act No 3 of
1998 and among its objectives are to oversee operation of
police, their conduct with public, their general protection
and condition under which they work.
