CONFISCATES 248 GUNS DURING OZT CAMPAIGN |
The Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs and Public
Safety, Mr. Lesao Lehohla congratulated the police for
confiscating 248 illegal firearms during Operation Zero
Tolerance.
The operation was introduced in 2005 by LMPS, with the
purpose of fighting crime in the country.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Mr. Lehohla said
there is no way that the country can be at peace with
itself, and be stable, while firearms are in the hands of
criminals.
He stated that it was up to the public to ensure that
security and safety of other people is maintained among the
society.
Mr. Lehohla expressed appreciation to the police, adding
that the fact that they have found those illegal guns means
that they have saved the lives of many people as such guns
are mostly used to kill innocent people.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Selete
said the recovered guns were found in Maseru, Teya-Teyaneng,
Mafeteng, Qacha's Nek, and Mokhotlong, adding that the
police have arrested six suspects in connection with these
guns.
Among the confiscated guns include Pump actions, Revolvers,
short guns and Galilees.
