CONDENMS TORTURE OF PUBLIC DURING CURFEW |
The Assistant
Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mokoto Khoeli has appealed to
soldiers and police officers who are on duty during the
six-six curfew to stop torturing the public.
Addressing the press conference, ACP Khoeli said it has come
to their attention that some people are being tortured
during the curfew and warned those who are involved to stop
the act as this is against the law.
He said they are aware that even those who are in possession
of traveling permits are still being afflicted. 'We have
already consulted with the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF)
management in trying to solve the matter', he said.
ACP Khoeli has therefore appealed to those afflicted to
report to the police, commenting that the curfew is not
meant to torture anybody with or without a permit but to
control people's movement at night.
Meanwhile, ACP confirmed that a senior police officer was
shot on the leg by unknown gunmen on Sunday night at Lower
Thamae. The victim sustained injuries but he is in stable
condition.
The curfew was announced on Friday last week in accordance
with the curfew order of Internal Security Act 1991.
