The Prime
Minister, Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili and his delegation arrived
in the country on Monday from the three-day Commonwealth
Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which ended in Kampala,
Uganda on Sunday.
The delegation comprised of the First Lady, Mrs. 'Mathato
Mosisili, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa,
Government Secretary Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane and Principal
Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tebello
Metsing.
The CHOGM ended with a new agreement ‘Kampala Declaration
2007’ in which leaders reaffirmed their commitment to combat
climate change and promote trade, mutual respect and
understanding across member states.
The Kampala Declaration highlights the way forward for
developing countries and demonstrates that qualitative
economic transformation, where issues such as open
economies, national development strategies, modernisation
and renewal of national infrastructure exist.
The declaration also puts emphasis on the rule of law as a
contributory factor to speedy process of transformation.
The theme for this year's meeting was 'Transforming
societies,' indicating a clear commitment of commonwealth
nations to work for their societies.
The meeting which is held after every two years, aimed at
providing a forum for heads of government to discuss issues
common to all and agree on collective initiatives and
policies.
The CHOGM was preceded by the Youth, Business and Peoples
Forum and Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting.
