OVER M1.5
MILLION EARMARKED FOR PROJECTS IN BEREA DISTRICT-MINISTER
LEPONO |
Berea district
has been allocated M1, 624,715.00 million by the Local
Government to undertake developmental projects for 2006/2007
financial year.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Gender and Youth,
Sports and Recreation when responding to questions on behalf
of the Minister of Local Government in the National Assembly
on Wednesday.
Mrs. 'Mathabiso Lepono, said the money has been distributed
amongst the ten district community councils to undertake
various projects such as roads, water supply and for
repairing broken water taps.
She pointed out that roads, which were constructed are in
the Makeoane D01, Tebe-Tebe D04, Maluba-lube D06, Motanasela
D07, Senekane D08 and Thuaathe D10.
Furthermore Mrs. Lepono said clean water supply projects
were undertaken at Mapoteng D02, Kueneng D03, Phuthuiatsana
D05 and Kanana D09.
However, she could not say how many people were employed for
carrying out the projects, saying all the people from where
the work was done had to be involved.
'The policy of Local Government is that villagers ought to
participate for any developmental projects being carried out
in their respective villages,' she highlighted.
The Minister indicated that residents knew from the
beginning that and agreed to be involved in any
developmental projects since the government has contributed
with a little money as well as equipment required for the
job.
She however said not all the projects have been completed as
yet and that in other places the villagers stopped working
as they wanted to be paid.
The Minister was responding to questions asked by the Member
of Parliament representing All Basotho Convention (ABC),
Mrs. Mabuo Kojoana, who needed to be furnished with
information on the use of funds allocated to Berea District
Council in the 2006/2007 financial year.
