A center
for orphans and vulnerable children was officially opened by
the Hope of the World organization at Sekamaneng on the 15th
January, 2007. Hope of the World is an organization under
the auspices of Assemblies of God Church. It was established
in 1998 with the objective of caring and supporting HIV/AIDS
infected children with counseling and assisting chronically
sick people through home based care programs.
Hope of the World director Pastor Joseph Thamae said the
center will accommodate 20 orphans aged between one and half
years and six years from Sekamaneng who were identified with
the assistance of the chief and HIV/AIDS support groups.
The Pastor said the children will not stay at the center but
will stay with their guardians so that they can experience
family life and receive love and care from their guardians.
One of the guardians Mrs.'Mamohlakoana Kapa said the
establishment of the center came at the right time when
there is high number of orphans and vulnerable children in
the country as a result of HIV/AIDS pandemic. She expressed
gratitude to the Hope of the World as it was difficult to
get food for the children. The chief of Sekamaneng Mr.
Maqholo Sello appealed to the beneficiaries of the center to
keep it in good condition as more children will benefit from
it.
