NDI IMPRESSED BY COOPERATION BETWEEN IEC AND PARTIES

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) Senior Programmes Officer based in Washington, also an election observer says preparations for election are going well as political parties are working hand in hand with IEC and Non-Governmental Organizations for successful general elections.

Mr. Deji Olaore was speaking at a public gathering in Moyeni held to give the public an opportunity to ask parties questions regarding their manifestos. Mr. Olaore said candidates standing for elections also benefit from the forum by getting some information of public needs that is excluded in their manifestos.

Manifestos of different political parties contesting for elections were more or less the same as they included; improvement of public services, development of economic growth, creation of jobs, care and support of the aged, orphans and vulnerable children and promotion of peace, and stability.

Public views included reduction of taxes, construction of more schools, roads, water supply and support of orphans, aged and vulnerable children.

The Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) Information Officer Mr. Potjo Potjo said the public gathering has been organized by CCL for support of good governance, civil society and democracy.

Political parties that took part at the public gathering were members of LCD, BNP, BCP, BDNP, ABC, MFP and ACP.

11,170 voters have registered for election in Moyeni Constituency. The constituency has 35 polling stations.
