M30 MILLION
EARMARKED FOR EAST, WESTERN WINGS OF SETSOTO STADIUM –
MINISTER LEPONO |
At least M30
million will be used for the renovation of eastern and
western wings of Setsoto stadium starting in February next
year.
Responding to questions in the National Assembly on
Thursday, the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and
Recreation, Mrs. 'Mathabiso Lepono, said the renovation is
expected to end by December 2008 if there are no
disruptions.
'The renovation does not include other northern and southern
wings of the stadium, where steel seats had been erected,
since that part is still on planning stage,' she
highlighted.
The Minister pointed out that the resurfacing of artificial
work currently going on at Setsoto does not have anything to
do with the soccer world cup in 2010.
She said it is being carried out by a Netherlands company,
which was awarded tender by the Federation of International
Football Association (FIFA) in collaboration with LEFA.
Mrs. Lepono noted that the artificial turf is made of nylon
imported from Greece.
"And that it was expected to last for six weeks, but due to
heavy rains, the work might be delayed a bit", she said.
The Minister was responding to questions asked by Member of
Parliament representing All Basotho Convention (ABC), Mrs.
Mabuo Kojoana, who requested the house to be briefed on the
proposed date of ongoing work at Setsoto stadium.
She also wanted to know the contractor, who won the tender,
the amount of money to be paid and whether or not the
project will be completed ahead of the 2010 soccer world
cup.
