LTA WARNS
MEDIA AGAINST BIAS REPORTING |
Lesotho
Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has warned media
personnel against tendencies of unethical reporting, which
could destroy professionalism in the country.
LTA Public Relations Manager, Mr. Tsiu Tsiu told LENA that
the statement follows an extraordinary meeting held by the
LTA board of directors, in which they complained of lack of
objectivity, accuracy, transparency, accountability and
impartiality in the media reportage by some of the media
organizations in the country.
The statement urges media organizations to comply with the
requirements of their licenses while reporting, adding that
their licenses only allow them to report news and
information accurately and impartially.
The board has also appealed to different media houses to
report in a manner that is constructive.
“It has been realized that lately, some of the reporters
distort and exaggerate information in their access,”
therefore urging them to be cautious when reporting to avoid
incidents that could lead to public violence.
The board has therefore warned that legal measures will be
taken against media organizations that do not comply with
the rules.
Established in 2000 by an Act of parliament, LTA is a
statutory body responsible for the regulation of the
telecommunication sector including broadcasting in Lesotho.
