LTA DE-REGULATES TELEBUREAU SERVICES

The Lesotho Telecommunications Authority's (LTA) has resolved to de-regulate telebureau services with effect from Wednesday.

LTA's Public Relations Manager, Mr. Ts'iu Ts'iu said the move is aimed at making it easy for small Basotho entrepreneurs to enter in great numbers into telecommunications businesses so that telephone access by the general public could be enhanced.

'There will no longer be any need for telebureau operators to apply for authorisation from LTA,' he emphasised

Mr. Ts'iu added that telebureau services are being de-regulated because a satisfactory level of competition has been realised in the country.

He therefore said prospective operators are advised to continue seeking permits from their local authorities for operational purposes, adding that operators are obliged to connect with local telecommunications companies.

LTA is a statutory body responsible for the regulation of the telecommunications sector in Lesotho.
