LESOTHO
SELECTED BECAUSE OF PEACE, DEMOCRACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE |
The Minister of
Natural Resources, Mr. Monyane Moleleki says Lesotho has
scooped position one for being the most peaceful country
that is committed to adhering to democracy and good
governance amongst all African countries.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at ‘Manthabiseng
Convention Centre in Maseru, Mr. Moleleki, said Lesotho was
selected by USA government for having met requirements of
Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant of US$ 250
Millennium to enhance development and economic growth of the
country.
Mr. Moleleki described the move as a giant step taken by the
government to fast track developments to improve economic
growth, poverty alleviation and service delivery, which he
said could be achieved, only when peace and stability reigns
in the country.
The minister was highlighting the process that developing
countries had to go through to become eligible to receive
assistance from the MCC.
MCC is a United States government corporation designed to
work with poorest countries in the world to help reduce
poverty through promotion of sustainable economic growth.
MCC was established in January 2004.
