OBSERVES COMMONWEALTH POLITICAL VALUES, PRINCIPLES - PM |
The Prime
Minister, Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili says Lesotho is among
countries which observe the fundamental political values and
principles set by Commonwealth for her people.
He was speaking at a press briefing on the Commonwealth
Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which was held in
Uganda recently.
Mr. Mosisili said heads of governments have reiterated their
commitment to the values and principles of tolerance,
respect, democracy and good governance, gender equality,
human rights, promotion of transparency and accountability
for the improvement of communities in their respective
countries.
He said they also agreed to sign several conventions on
matters relating to terrorism in an effort to address the
challenges concerning the problem, adding that conventions
on the rights of people with disabilities and discrimination
against women will also be ratified.
With regard to Lesotho's progress on the implementation of
the Millennium Development Goals, the Prime Minister said
the country is progressing well to achieve the goals hence
it has qualified for the grant from the Millennium Challenge
Corporation (MCC).
“Government has succeeded to implement Free Primary
Education which will soon be made compulsory,” he said.
