LESOTHO BENEFITS FROM LIBYA - KING

Lesotho has benefited immensely from Libya's generosity since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

His Majesty King Letsie III said this when accepting credentials from the Secretary of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya to Lesotho, Dr. Yousef Algowizy at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday.

King Letsie III said the benefits from Libya to Lesotho include training of members of Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) as well as in the provision of tractors with the aim of increasing agricultural production in Lesotho.

He commended Libya for its determination to cooperate with other countries in various fields of social and economic development.

He added that official visits to Libya by the Prime Minister Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili in 2000 and 2005 had a noticeable effect on the cordial relations.

He further said Libyan people's Bureau has been established in Maseru while Lesotho reciprocated by opening a resident mission in Tripoli.

Presenting his letters of credence Dr. Algowizy said although Libya and Lesotho are far separated by distance, they both share stronger bonds of friendship and they are working towards maintenance of peace, stability and security.

He added that his country will ensure that the lives of people in both countries are developed and improved in various fields.

Dr. Algowizy pledged to perform his duty according to the mission and to strengthen the relationship between the two countries during his tenure of office.

Dr. Algowizy succeeds the former Libyan Ambassador to Lesotho Mr. Mohamed Algamudi who left the country in December last year following his expulsion by the Lesotho government for misusing his ambassadorial status.
