LERIBE COMMEMORATES QUEEN'S BIRTH DAY

His Majesty King Letsie III has expressed gratitude to people of Leribe for celebrating the Queen's Birthday, describing the act as honour and privilege.

He was speaking on behalf of Her Majesty Queen ’Masenate Mohato Bereng Seeiso at the commemoration of her 31st birth day which was organised by the Leribe Horse Racing committee in collaboration with the District Administration and the Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation.

King commended organisers for their vision, saying horse racing is a sport that is highly favoured by Basotho to bring peace and unity. He further thanked members of business community that sponsored the event, urging them to continue not only in Leribe, but also other parts of the country.

Speaking at the same occasion, Minister of Forestry and Land Reclamation Mr. Ralechate 'Mokose also extended his gratitude to business community for sponsoring the event. He encouraged them to continue with the attitude.

He called on to all local business community to emulate the example, noting that government has made a provision to reduce income tax to all those who contribute to developing sports through sponsorship.

One of the sponsors of the event, the Branch Manager of Standard Lesotho Bank, Mr. Tikoe Tokoe told LENA that the initiative aims to plough back to the community, looking at the significance of the event in Leribe, thus both the Queen's Birthday celebration and horse racing.

The chairperson of the Leribe Horse Racing committee, Mr. Pitso Manesa known
as 'Chibase' expressed joy for having the honour to celebrate the Queen's Birthday and hosting the horse racing. He said the event was their dream come true, through the support of the Ministry Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation.

He also thanked the business community for the support, hoping that the event will continue to be more successful in the coming years.

The event was funded with over M40, 000, and had attracted horse riders from as far as Mokhotlong and Mohale's hoek.

Her Majesty Queen 'Masenate Mohato Seeiso was born in Leribe on June 2nd, 1976.
