LCD WINS MEKALING CONSTITUENCY BY-ELECTIONS

The Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) scooped the Parliamentary by-elections at Mekaling Constituency No. 59 which were held last Saturday.

LCD was represented by Mr. Mahlomola Makhube, who won the by-elections with 3, 301 votes. The results were announced by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Maseru on Monday.

Mr. Makhube is followed by Mr. Sebolai Tau of All Basotho Convention (ABC) with 328 votes, while Mr. Bonang Letsie, who represented Popular Front for Democracy (PFD) and Mr. Seipati Makoa of Basotho National Party (BNP) both received 76 votes.

They are followed by Mr. Ts'otleho Makoa of Basotho Batho Democratic Party (BBDP) with 45 votes and Mr. Thabiso Motlhokoa of Basotho Democratic National Party (BDNP), who got 29 votes.

The by-elections were held following the death of a Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Mr. Molefe Konyana in May this year.

There were 10, 477 registered voters in this constituency, but only 3,904 voters took part in the by-elections.
