GS URGES COMMUNITY TO SHOW INTEREST IN DEVELOPING THEIR AREA

The Government Secretary (GS), Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane has urged the Thamathu community in Qacha’s nek to demonstrate willingness to take charge in efforts to develop their area.

This was said during the meeting between GS, Principal Secretaries (PS’s), heads of government departments, community councillors and Thamathu community held at Thamathu Primary School on Thursday.

The GS said he is aware that Thamathu community is really in need of services and developmental projects that could improve their lives from government ministries but noted that villagers should also start preventing burning of ranges and theft that could hinder such projects.

He said the visit is the first of its kind to be conducted at the area and noted that PS’s delegation has identified where and what kind of services are needed and noted that services would be brought in future to their area in order to improve their lives.

During the meeting, different PS’s discussed developmental needs with the community that included among others; the construction of rural roads, health centres, class rooms, construction of Radio Lesotho Transmission towers and other towers for cellular phones as well as fire extinguishers to prevent fire’s that sometimes erupt inside the Sehlabathebe National Park.

Speaking during the same meeting, District Council Chairperson, Mr. Tokelo Mohlophe noted that Thamathu residents are earning their living from the Natal province in the Republic of South Africa due to lack of services in their area.

He indicated that sick people travel long distances on foot to access health centres and other services that are situated in remote areas and noted that some of the people even die before reaching these facilities.

The visit, as explained by the GS, emanates from the Prime Minister’s concern over the livelihoods of the Thamathu community that he raised during his meeting with government PS’s earlier this year.
