FAMILY
CLUB PROGRAMME ON THE CARDS |
Blue
Cross Resource Centre (BCRC)'s Family Club Programme will
hold a public gathering for Khotsong in Berea on January 28.
The Family Club Programme is one of the BCRC's programmes
aimed at rehabilitating drug and alcohol abusers as well as
assisting families affected by drug and alcohol abuse with
counseling. It was launched in January 2006.
Mrs. Mphonyane Mofokeng, volunteered teacher for the
programme, said the purpose of the gathering is to introduce
the newly established programme to the community and also
sensitizes them about its
importance.
She said during the gathering families affected by drug and
alcohol abuse will be encouraged to establish family clubs
that will give them a platformto share ideas on effects of
drug and alcohol abuse and seek ways to overcome them.
Mrs. Mofokeng said she volunteered to implement the
programme at Sekamaneng where she resides due to the
realization that people still lack skills on how to
differentiate between problems associated with substance
abuse and pure family problems.
She added that through family clubs, affected families will
be trained on the effects of substance abuse and the
importance of supporting addicts.
Mrs. Mofokeng is one of the 21 volunteers in various
villages who would
implement the programme. They were trained by the BCRC in
December, 2006.
