The Deputy Prime
Minister Mr. Lesao Lehohla is currently attending the
sixty-second session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
held in New York, United State of America starting from
Monday, September 24.
The Deputy Prime Minister and his delegation left the
country on Saturday.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations
Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa told LENA that the UNGA is the main
deliberative organ of the United Nations (UN) which is made
up of all UN member states and meets in regular yearly
sessions.
Mr. Tsekoa noted that the UNGA plays a significant role in
the process of standard setting and the codification of
international law.
Topics to be discussed during the forum as stipulated by the
Minister include international peace and security,
sustainable development, human rights, development in
Africa, humanitarian assistance, justice and international
law as well as the fight against drugs, crime and terrorism.
Established in 1945 under the Charter of the United Nations,
the general assembly occupies a central position as the
chief deliberative, policy-making and representative organ
of the United Nations comprising all 192 members of the
United Nations.
The Deputy Prime Minister's delegation is made up of the
Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa, Trade and
Industry, Mr. Popane Lebesa and of Tourism, Ms. Lebohang
Nts'inyi as well as the Principal Secretaries of the same
ministries.
The delegation is expected to arrive in Lesotho on October
03.
