WILD CELEBRATION FOR 9TH ALL AFRICA GAMES

Team Lesotho, glad in traditional attire like blankets and Seshoeshoe dresses, stole the show at the official opening of the 9th All Africa Games held at Olympic Stadium in Algiers on Wednesday.

The function was held amid wild raptures as the Algerians came in large numbers to witness the biggest sporting event in the continent led by President Abdelazz Bouteflika.

Under chilly weather from Mediterranean breeze, Basotho were comfortable with blankets and there was loud applause from the audience, mainly Algerians, in appreciation as they entered the stadium.

The audience seemed to enjoy each moment of the occasion as they were treated to Arabic songs and dances prepared for the event of this magnitude.

Member countries various colours shined as firecrackers exploded much to the ululations of the audience during the night:

However, Basotho were shocked to see old Lesotho flag hoisted all over the place in Algiers, while the athletes hoisted the new flag that was raised in October last year to mark Lesotho’s 40th independence.

President Bouteflika declared the games officially open and wished the athletes success in their sporting activities free from any troubles:

Lesotho is represented in athletics, boxing, tennis, taekwondo and sports for the disabled at this continental showpiece:

The event is held after every four years and the previous one was held in Abuja Nigeria where team Lesotho brought six medals:

All the 53 member countries are expected to showcase their talent in 27 sporting disciplines.
